15. St. Josephat Basilica Noon Bells

The commanding presence of the church bells are challenged by the sounds of the street. What must it have been like before the advent of the automobile and the motorcycle?

A treat. I could listen to a hundred recordings of any church bells. Why is this?
When surprised:
1) Check your record level (it was over-modulating a bit)
2) Maintain or very slowly change your orientation to the event.(no quick changes)
3) Slowly move away from other loud sounds. (like the street in this case.)
4) AFter the event is over, continue recording in the exact same spot at the same record level for several minutes so you'll have a variety of material to edit with. In this case, it would help to establish the setting first.

I also like that you provided specifics in your title!
"At the corner of Lincoln Ave. and South 6th st" would even be better.
